Precision Epoxy / Rock Art specializes in the Epoxy
Industry and through this combined effort as Formulator / Applicator , we
have developed our systems to cater to the needs of 'Field Use'. As
conditions and climate change from job to job, so do our techniques and
formulas change to give more control and consistency assuring the best and
most permanent installations possible.
Important to understand about
true Epoxies:
There are four phases that an epoxy goes through once the Resin (Part
'A') and the Hardener (Part 'B') are properly blended at the appropriate
mix ratio.
1) Pot Life
Pot life is the shortest
time in an Epoxy's cure cycle because of exothermic reaction. Exotherming is where the epoxy's rate of cure is accelerated from
its own heat build-up from
being in a confined area such as the container or 'pot' it was mixed in. If the pot life
is reached and the batch is blown, it will be unusable and need to be discarded.
2) Open Time
Open time is how long
you have to do additional work or applications with or into the epoxy
after it has been applied such as release air, broadcast aggregate, etc.
This is a much longer time than Pot Life because generally the epoxy is
applied in a thin film over a large area allowing heat generated during
curing to dissipate and not accelerate the cure rate.
3) Cure time -
Initial
Initial cure time is
when the epoxy is no longer tacky and feels dry to the touch.
4) Cure Time -
Final
Final cure time is
when the epoxy reaches its solid state properties and curing is complete.

variety of solid state properties to suit many application needs. The
general aggregate to epoxy ratio is 2 to 1.
Consult Product's
Technical Bulletin for additional information.
A specific epoxy formulation
should be chosen to satisfy your application requirements such as liquid and
solid state properties, pot life, open time, cure time, exposure, etc.
A particular epoxy product may have many proper applications throughout many
industries; therefore, a clear understanding of epoxies, their applications and
limitations will aid in proper product selection and use. An Epoxy's solid state
properties can only be achieved by thorough mixing of Parts 'A' and 'B' at the
proper mix ratio. Higher application temperatures will accelerate reaction time
reducing pot life, open time and cure time while making the viscosity of the
product thinner. Lower application temperatures will make reaction time sluggish
extending pot life, open time and cure time while increasing the viscosity of
the product.
